I finally broke down and bought a smart phone. And now I am wondering what I ever did without it! The smart phone has really helped me work smarter not harder. Since I work at home and tend so shop and stay in the area, in the past, I could never justify the expense of a smart phone. After all I pretty much just needed a phone for emergencies and the occasional phone call.
But I was discovering more and more apps for the smart phone that could save me a lot of time and even money. Plus the old phone was hard to text on so I never texted (gasp). In short despite having 20 some websites, I was in the stone age when it came to my cellular device. Mainly I did not realize how a smart phone was not a phone but more of a personal computer in your pocket.
So I took the plunge. I picked up a beautiful gold, IPhone 5S, like this one pictured, using my upgrade and a gift card along with a little cash. Now keep in mind I was upgrading from an old flip phone. One so old they would not take it as a trade in (yes of course I asked). In fact, I am sure the salesman thought my flip phone was an antique. You can check out the iPhones on Amazon here: iphone 5s gold
The phone has been amazing to use. Not only great for my business but a lot of fun. I have found that I hear from my family and friends more because texting is so easy. And I love the ease of the apps.
Some of my favorite apps are:
TipNSplit (figures out the tip fast and easy)
MyFitnessPal and CalorieKing (calorie counters)
TabataTimer (times quick fitness routines)
Amazon Price Check (lets me know if I am getting a good price or not)
White Pages (it even pulls up the menu for a restaurant)
eBay (keeps me posted on sales etc. when I am away from the computer)
and there are many more apps I love…
As for saving money, just recently I was able to visit a store’s website and pull up a coupon on my phone saving me 20%. When I went to Best Buy I had them pull up the price at Amazon and price match an item I was buying. There are a lot of apps on the phone to check prices and give you coupons. Heck, I am almost being Paid to have a smart phone!
There are also apps to help you find Yard Sales which is the subject of my next book on how to thrift for profit. And there is even a Craigslist app which works awesome if you are selling on Craigslist which I share how to do in my book; Craigslist Cash: How To Sell On Craigslist and Make Money Fast! (Quick Cash Guide)
I will say it does bug me when I go to restaurants and see people engrossed in their phones and not with each other. And I don’t plan to do that. But I am finding many ways to enjoy my new phone.
What about you? If you have a smart phone what is your favorite app?
